How to survive half term as a small business owner 🫣

Adam Stirling Apr 5, 2023

Half terms are always a head and heart battle for small business owners 🤷

On the one hand, you want to spend time with your family and create some great memories.

On the other hand, you are aware that you need to keep business going and maintain pipeline.

Here are our tips to a successful half term:

  1. Actually take some planned time off. If you think you can work all the way through a two week half term, you're wrong!! Better to commit to some days at the start and plan some really fun activities, rather than spend a day being grumpy sat at the park because you have admitted defeat 👍

  2. Try splitting your day into three. Work, play, work. Start work much earlier and do a good few hours before the day begins. Then you can head out and have some fun knowing that you are already ahead for the day. In the evening when the kids are tired out and chilling, you can then do another work stint on the laptop.

  3. Try and keep your social media updated and keep the engagement high during this period. You can schedule posts in advance on all the main platforms, so why not spend some time before the half term writing a few posts and planning them in advance! 🧠

  4. Just to add to point 3) there are lots of tools out there that help you automate the boring stuff, check out what you can be using day to day to get rid of these tasks forever, not just for half term.

  5. Remember that all of your customers are normal people too. They have lives and families outside of work and this will likely be a busy couple of weeks for them too. The world will not stop if you take a few hours to get back to people 🤯

Most importantly, try not to stress! Enjoy not having to do the school run for a couple of weeks.

Enjoy starting work unwashed and in your dressing gown (Unless you are people facing of course 🧟)

Make sure the kids don't go back to school feeling like they have been a fly on your office wall for the entire break 🪰

Everything will still be there when you are back at 100%.
