Do you want to increase your following and engagement on LinkedIn? Here's how to do it...
Post often! If people are going to follow you, then they will want to see value. Make sure your posts demonstrate the value you add to your industry sector and why people should come to you for the service that you offer. Ensure that if people take the time to comment on your posts, you take the time to reply.
Post at the right times. LinkedIn is a business platform, and it is busiest during business hours. Try to publish your posts in the morning at around 9am for the greatest engagement.
Creating new content everyday is hard!! Scheduling your posts in advance can be a great way to take the pressure off. You can do this by hitting the clock icon at the bottom of the post page and setting a date and time.
Spend time every day liking and commenting on other peoples posts. The more you engage with other peoples content, the more engagement you get on your own. A comment needs to be 5 words or more to hit the algorithms. Try not to share other peoples posts, even if they ask you to! This detaches them from the original poster as if you have started a new post, rather than driving traffic to the original.
Start meaningful conversations - Try sending a message to everyone who connects with you just to say thank you, and see if there is anything you can help them with today! Or, if you have connected with them, thank them for accepting and explain why you wanted to connect. It seems like such a small thing, but it goes a long way.
Set up a company profile under your personal profile, rather than create an entirely different login (if you have a company of course). From this you can invite 250 people per month to follow you.
When you post, either from your personal or company profile, you can now switch between your accounts using the icon (profile picture/company logo) at the bottom left of the post (Near the like button/comments section). Every time you post, switch to your other profile, hit the like button and drop a comment. This will help to boost engagement and traffic to both of your accounts.
Consistency! Set KPI's about posting and commenting. It will grow your brand.
Hashtags - Technically, you can add as many as you want to a post. However, to avoid your posts being flagged as spam, try sticking to 2-3 max. Make sure they are specific to the topic/industry you are posting about. For example, as we are a recruitment business, #recruitment #hiring are very popular.
Grow your network. The more connections, the more people see your content. There is a caveat to this, make sure that everyone you connect with is relevant to your sector or the job role that you do. Your network needs to be valuable rather than just to show inflated numbers!
Mix up your content with text, video and images to find which gives you the best results.
Let your network see the real you. Let your personality come through in your posts while keeping them professional. People buy from people as they say.
Personal profiles get more following and engagement than company profiles, FACT!
Don't be afraid to voice your opinions, even if they conflict with the person posting, or the majority of the people engaging with the post. As long as you are professional and respectful, they will appreciate your alternative view on the topic. The idea is to stand out, not blend in with the crowd 👍
These are some very simple things you can do everyday to increase your LinkedIn following. It takes time to build a following, so stick with it. Repeating these things consistently will grow your brand over time.
