When should your onboarding start?

Adam Stirling Feb 18, 2023

When should you start onboarding new hires? πŸ€”

On the first day?

After they've had a week to settle in?

I imagine in some cases, probably not at all!! πŸ™ˆ

The truth is, whether you know it or not, onboarding starts the moment somebody verbally accepts an offer of employment with your business.

On average, there is a 4 week wait (notice period) between a candidate accepting a new role, and starting it.

4 long weeks where anything can happen!!

The experience and communication they receive during this period, will directly impact the success of the hire.

That's if they even start! 🫣

Remember, they have just handed in their notice. The hard part is done!

If they are contacted about a new role during this time, guess what? They might as well hear about it!

If you do not make them feel like part of the team before they join your business, then they may become disillusioned and be open to seeing what else is out there. πŸ‘€

Meanwhile, their current employer is throwing numerous counter offers at them to stop them from leaving!!

Once someone accepts an offer of employment, they work for you!!

Make sure they know it, or you will be starting the search again πŸ”
