Why you should never accept a counter offer... (In my opinion)
Why (in my opinion) you should never accept a counter offer
Counter offers are a hot topic right now, so I thought I would put my 2 pence worth in!
My thoughts are… Don't do it!
Of course, this is up to you. But seriously, don't!
Here (in my opinion) is why: ⬇⬇⬇
In my experience, 9 times out of 10, counter offers are all about the money!!
If you are really honest with yourself, is your main reason for looking for a new role purely financial? 🤔
The money is nice, but as soon as you have increased your monthly outgoings to suit your new lifestyle, you will remember the real reasons why you decided to leave!
Counter offers also tend to be a snap decision to reduce the impact on the employer that will be caused by you leaving.
This may also trigger an offensive action. They are now nervous that you will leave and start to interview for a replacement, using the counter offer as a cushion to stall your exit. (Pretty sure this is illegal but guarantee it happens).
Why now? If you have worked somewhere for a period of time, proved yourself, why does it take you to hand your in notice to get that ever elusive pay rise?
Most importantly, you will dilute your credibility.
Stick to your word! If you accept a job, do it carefully and only take it if you are not going to change your mind.
A Lot of people work very hard to complete a thorough recruitment process, please do not enter it unless you decide to see it through.
Especially do not enter it as a salary increasing exercise with your current employer!!
2 pence, done!
Don't accept counter offers, OK?!
